About The Bootlegger Bath

What makes this a great fit for your hen weekend

On George Street in Bath, The Bootlegger is the speakeasy chapter of the hen night: a prohibition-styled cocktail bar at its busiest on Friday and Saturday nights, pouring inventive drinks in a room dressed for 1925. Nights are the main event.

George Street threads the Assembly Rooms into the centre, so the Bootlegger sits on Bath's prettiest route. arrive dressed for the era, take the cocktails as they were (not) served a century ago and let the night deepen. Rated 4.4 from over 400 reviews, it has become one of Bath's essential late addresses.

For hens who want their Bath cocktails with atmosphere and a wink, The Bootlegger is the George Street answer. The bride takes the booth; the jazz age provides the lighting.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the cocktail masterclass?

Our masterclass costs £45 per person. A mixologist leads your group through making three cocktails, with a welcome glass of prosecco with strawberries or a Bootlegger beer on arrival, in your own reserved area.

How long does it last and how many can come?

Sessions run 1.5 to 2 hours depending on group size, for groups from four up to fifty. Published slots include Saturdays 12pm to 3pm and Sundays 4pm to 8pm, with weekday sessions too; email us for specific dates.

Is it suitable for a hen party?

Yes. Hen and stag parties are a big part of what we do in our Georgian cellar speakeasy on George Street. Recent hen groups call it the highlight of the weekend; book early for Saturdays.

Is there an age limit?

Yes. The venue is strictly over-18s and everyone needs ID. We are open Tuesday to Saturday (closed Sunday and Monday), with a live DJ every Saturday.

Where are you?

We are hidden in a Georgian cellar at 16 George Street, Bath BA1 2EN, in the city centre near the Assembly Rooms. Call 0303 003 3213 to book.

Can we just come for drinks?

Yes. Beyond masterclasses we pour Prohibition-era cocktails all evening, with happy hour Tuesday to Thursday 4pm to 10pm, all night Friday and Saturday 12pm to 8pm, plus private hire for bigger celebrations.

Loved this place, HOWEVER, do not go hungry. We love bottomless brunches and try all different places. The atmosphere, staff and drinks were fabulous. The food was no where near enough for 4 people. We had 2 meat and 2 veggies. What we received: Meat: 3 chilli cheese bites, 4 potato croquettes, 4 chicken wings and 2 mini burgers (& that was between 2)! Veggies had the same except 4 chilli cheese bites and 8 croquettes (as we had 4 chick wings). All for £39.50 per person. Was it good value? Not from our experience, however all 4 of us would go back there for a night out. Unfortunately we were that hungry we’d eaten the food before we thought of taking a pic (& we were waiting for plates and sauces). Will repeat BAR staff were great and really attentive.

Nice cocktails although the bar staff seemed a little overwhelmed by our party of 10 despite pre booking, it wasn’t busy otherwise. Food was a massive disappointment, ordered 5 portions of chips at £5:50 yeah, 2 bowls arrived, to share between 5 of us. Burnt fries, not worth the money at all. Our waiter did a terrible job at trying to trying to make light of the situation by offering us a chicken package for £30. Situation made us all a bit cross and meant we cut our visit short. Don’t offer a package if you can’t deliver the goods!

Came in for a cocktail. Waitstaff was fantastic! Cocktails were very good. We did not know that they had live music, but we stuck around to see what they had. We are glad we did! They had a great performance by Zack Linton. He played a varied mix of blues greats (SRV, Eric, BB) and covered a variety of other greats (Seal, Santana, etc.). We really enjoyed the music! Overall, a great experience!
