Table Tennis Hen House | Crai | Sleeps 15

The space

Riverside Barn is made for a hen weekend with fresh air, big-table dinners and cosy countryside atmosphere at its heart. Set in Crai in the Brecon Beacons National Park, this beautifully restored barn sleeps up to 15 guests across three individual cottages: Blue Brook, Red Ridge and Green Gallop. That layout works brilliantly for a mixed hen group, giving everyone the joy of staying together while still having separate spaces to retreat to when they want a quieter morning coffee or an early night.

The setting feels properly special without being overdone. Original beams, stonework, oak floors, Welsh slate and warm terracotta tiles create a relaxed, rustic backdrop for pre-wedding celebrations, while modern comforts keep the weekend easy. There is even homemade chocolate cake on arrival, a lovely welcome touch for kicking things off.

When booked together, Blue Brook becomes the social hub of the barn. Its large glazed dining area has a solid oak table seating up to 15, so the whole hen party can sit down for brunch, a grazing board, a private chef-style dinner or a low-key evening meal after a day exploring the hills. Outside, the riverside gravel area, garden space and fire pit set the scene for slow afternoons, BBQ suppers and stargazing once the skies go dark.

Inside the house

Across the three cottages, the accommodation sleeps 8 to 15 guests in 7 bedrooms, giving the group a flexible setup for friends, sisters, mums and bridesmaids. The interiors are full of character, with handcrafted oak coffee tables, bespoke beds and warm underfloor heating that makes the cottages feel welcoming in every season.

Each cottage has its own fully equipped kitchen with an induction hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge with a small freezer. This is a huge plus for hen groups who want to self-cater, prep drinks and snacks, organise breakfast at different times, or keep fizz chilled for the bride-to-be. Washing machine access is available in Red Ridge and Green Gallop, and quality bed linen is provided, with towels available to hire.

The main group space in Blue Brook is ideal for shared plans. The open-plan sitting room is made for relaxed evenings, hen games, films, music at a respectful level, and catching up without needing to head out. There is WiFi and Sky Freeview TV, while modern bathrooms with powerful showers help the whole group get ready without too much queuing. Blue Brook also has a romantic freestanding bath, a lovely extra for a little pre-wedding pampering.

Hen weekend highlights

This is a great choice for a countryside hen do that is more about connection, food, activities and atmosphere than loud late nights. The riverside outdoor area is a standout feature: set up a BBQ, pour drinks, bring out the playlist at a sensible volume and enjoy dinner with the sound of the River Crai in the background. As evening settles in, the fire pit is a natural gathering point for toasted marshmallows, speeches, stories and relaxed celebrations.

There is also a garden and large paddock play area, giving you plenty of room for daytime fun. Think picnic-style lunches, garden games, bride quizzes, team challenges or a chilled afternoon after a long walk. Table tennis adds an easy competitive activity for downtime at the house, especially useful if the weather changes or you want something low-effort between meals.

The property sits within a recognised Dark Sky Wales area, so clear nights can be genuinely beautiful. For hens who love a slower, outdoorsy weekend, stargazing by the fire pit is a memorable alternative to a club night. Practical extras include ample parking, bike, canoe and surfboard storage, BBQ facilities and an EV charger available on request.

Please note that this is a peaceful rural property with a noise policy in place, so it is best suited to respectful groups looking for a relaxed celebration. The River Crai runs directly behind the barns, so extra care is needed around the water.

Location & getting around

Riverside Barn is in Crai, a quiet village location in the Brecon Beacons, surrounded by walking routes, big views and outdoor adventure options. It is a strong match for hens who want to swap city traffic for waterfalls, mountain scenery and fresh country air. Days can be shaped around walking, cycling, canoeing, paddleboarding, waterfall visits, scenic drives or simply enjoying the garden and riverside setting.

Brecon is reachable by car for shops, pubs, cafes and supplies, while the wider national park gives you lots of scope for planned activities with local providers. Because the property is rural, driving or arranging taxis/minibus transport in advance is recommended, especially if you plan to eat out or book activities away from the barn. Mobile signal can be limited, which adds to the switch-off feeling, but it is worth planning arrival details and transport before you travel.

There is ample parking on site, making it straightforward for guests arriving from different parts of the UK. The location is particularly well suited to groups who want a scenic base rather than a nightlife-heavy hen weekend.
