The space

Accommodation is arranged across five individual cottages: Kite, Kestrel, Peregrine, Hobby and Merlin. Kite sleeps 11 across 5 bedrooms, Kestrel sleeps 8 across 4 bedrooms, Peregrine sleeps 6 across 3 bedrooms, Hobby sleeps 5 across 3 bedrooms, and Merlin sleeps 2 in 1 bedroom. This layout is ideal for a hen group because guests can spread out comfortably, with couples, bridesmaids, family members or early risers able to have their own space while still being close to the main celebrations.

For shared meals, Kestrel offers group dining for up to 32, so the whole party can come together for a celebratory dinner, private chef-style evening or a big homemade feast. Kite also has dining space for 12, giving you another sociable hub for smaller breakfasts, planning the day or opening a few bottles before dinner.

The kitchens are spacious and well equipped for group catering, with dishwashers in the cottages except Merlin, plus washer-driers for practical weekend use. Merlin has a kitchenette, which suits guests who prefer a quieter, self-contained set-up. The larger living rooms in Kite and Peregrine open straight onto a patio and lawn, making it easy to move between indoor lounging and outdoor drinks when the weather is kind.

The Stables is located in Cynghordy, a peaceful village near Llandovery in Carmarthenshire, close to the edge of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Llandovery offers local pubs, shops and places to eat, while the wider area is rich in walking routes, cycling roads and dramatic landscapes.

The Heart of Wales Railway line runs through the village, which is handy for rail excursions north or south, although groups planning evenings out may prefer to arrange taxis or a minibus in advance. There is ample gravelled parking on site, making it straightforward for guests travelling by car.

For daytime plans, you are well placed for castles, gardens, caves, reservoirs and mountain scenery. Nearby options include Dinefwr and Carreg Cennen Castles, Llyn Brianne Dam, Dinas RSPB Reserve, Cwm-y-Rhaeadr, the Black Mountain, Llyn-y-Fan-Fach, Dan-yr-Ogof Caves, Dolaucothi Gold Mine, Aberglasney Gardens, the National Botanic Garden of Wales and the Elan Valley. Llanwrtyd Wells, known for quirky events such as bog snorkelling and Man v Horse, is also within reach. The West and South Wales coasts can be explored as a longer day trip.
