What makes this property a great fit for your hen weekend
Bring the whole bridal party together in a striking converted telephone exchange in the heart of the Peak District. Set just outside Biggin, surrounded by Derbyshire countryside and moments from the Tissington Trail, this spacious group house gives you the best of both worlds: peaceful rural views for chilled prosecco mornings, and easy access to Buxton, Hartington and classic Peak District activities when you want to get out and explore.
The house has been designed with sociable weekends in mind, making it a brilliant base for a hen celebration that is more relaxed countryside gathering than cramped city crash pad. There is plenty of space for everyone to sit, eat, chat, get ready and celebrate together, with generous communal areas that make the weekend feel effortless from the moment you arrive. Whether you are planning a low-key foodie weekend, a walking-and-wine itinerary, a glam night in, or a mix of countryside days and Buxton evenings, the layout works beautifully for groups.
Outside, the setting is a real bonus. The property sits among green fields with a large patio, garden space, outdoor seating and a BBQ area, so you can enjoy lazy afternoons, pre-dinner drinks or a casual group feast when the weather is on your side. Add in a hot tub for post-walk bubbles and you have a hen house that feels celebratory without needing to be over the top.
The main living space is the standout feature: a huge open-plan area covering much of the ground floor, created for group socialising. There are multiple comfortable seating areas, so the bride can hold court while everyone catches up, opens fizz, plays games or settles in for a cosy evening. A wall-mounted log burner adds a lovely snug feel, especially after a day on the trails or a breezy afternoon exploring Derbyshire.
Dining is refreshingly easy here. The property has large stylish tables with seating for the group, so nobody needs to split between rooms or balance plates on their knees. It is ideal for a private chef dinner, a DIY buffet, a hen party grazing table, afternoon tea, or a big celebratory breakfast the morning after. The ultra-modern kitchen is fully equipped for large-group catering, with excellent prep space and multiple ovens, making it practical as well as polished.
Accommodation is spread across nine bedrooms, giving the group a flexible setup for bridesmaids, family members and friends. Bedrooms can generally be arranged as doubles or twins, which is ideal when you have a mixed hen group and want to keep everyone comfortable. Several rooms are family-style with bunk beds, adding extra flexibility for guests who are happy to share. With en suites or private bathroom access for the bedrooms, getting ready is much smoother than in a typical holiday cottage, especially when everyone is doing hair, makeup and outfit changes before dinner.
For downtime, the house also includes useful extras such as workspace, handy if someone needs to sneak in a quick check-in before the celebrations begin, or if you want a practical spot for planning games, playlists and the weekend itinerary.
The hot tub is a major hen weekend win. It is just the thing for a relaxed Friday night arrival, a post-brunch soak, or warming up after a countryside walk along the Tissington Trail. Pour the fizz, put on a chilled playlist and give the bride a chance to properly switch off with her favourite people around her.
The outdoor space gives you lots of options for easy hosting. The patio and garden area are well suited to drinks in the sunshine, garden games, a BBQ lunch or a laid-back evening meal without the formality of going out. There is outdoor seating for sociable meals and catch-ups, and the views across the surrounding countryside help everything feel calm and private.
If you are building a full itinerary, the house works well with classic hen activities: private dining, cocktail making, flower crown workshops, life drawing, pamper treatments, yoga, or a competitive games night in the open-plan lounge. While there is no need to leave the house to have a great weekend, Buxton is nearby for spa time, drinks, restaurants and a more dressed-up evening. The town is known for its elegant spa heritage, making it a lovely choice if the bride wants something a little more indulgent during the stay.
The combination of big dining space, flexible bedrooms, private bathrooms, hot tub, BBQ and countryside setting makes the property especially good for groups who want quality time together. It is sociable, comfortable and easy to make your own, whether your hen weekend is all about relaxed luxury, outdoor adventure or one brilliant night of celebration back at the house.
This Derbyshire hen house is set in the Peak District National Park, close to Biggin and just a short drive from Hartington, a pretty village known for its cheese shop and countryside charm. It is a great spot for a daytime wander, coffee stop or relaxed lunch before heading back to the house.
For activities, the Tissington Trail is only around 200 metres away, which is a huge plus for groups who fancy walking or cycling without complicated transport. The trail is traffic-free and suitable for a range of abilities, so it is easy to turn into a gentle group activity rather than a full-on hike. Bike hire is available nearby at Parsley Hay, making a cycling morning simple to organise.
Buxton is around 15 minutes away by car, giving you access to restaurants, bars, shops, spa experiences and cultural spots in one of Derbyshire’s best-known towns. Ashbourne is also within reach for independent shops, cafes and a more relaxed market-town feel. For a big night out, you may want to pre-book taxis or a minibus, as rural Peak District locations are best enjoyed with transport planned in advance.
The countryside location is part of the appeal: you can start the day with fresh air and open views, spend the afternoon in a village or spa town, then come back to your own private base for dinner, hot tub time and games.
If this sounds like the right setting for your hen weekend, send an enquiry with your preferred dates, group size and any plans you already have in mind. The host can help confirm the sleeping arrangements, amenities and practical details so you can start shaping a Derbyshire celebration that suits the bride and the whole group.
