What makes this property a great fit for your hen weekend
Set in the secluded grounds of historic Gradbach Mill, this luxury farmhouse brings together all the ingredients for a relaxed, sociable hen weekend in the Peak District. Sleeping up to 16 guests, it is made for groups who want space to celebrate together without feeling crowded, with countryside views, 16 acres of woodland to wander and the River Dane close by for a peaceful backdrop to the weekend.
The setting feels tucked away and private, which is ideal if the plan is less about rushing around and more about quality time with the bride-to-be. Think lazy breakfasts, walks through the valley, hot tub evenings, BBQs in the garden and a cosy lounge where everyone can settle in with drinks, games and playlists. You are surrounded by classic Peak District scenery, but still within easy reach of Buxton and Leek when you fancy a change of pace.
The farmhouse sleeps 14 to 16 guests across 7 bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, which is a huge bonus for a hen group getting ready for dinner, activities or a night out. No long bathroom queues, no awkward room sharing arrangements and plenty of privacy when everyone wants a little downtime.
The bedroom layout works well for mixed friendship groups and family members joining the celebration. On the ground floor there are two twin en suite rooms and one double en suite room. On the first floor you will find another twin en suite plus a double and single en suite room. The second floor has a further twin en suite and another double and single en suite room. The rooms are sympathetically decorated with quality furnishings, giving the house a warm, comfortable feel rather than a standard party rental setup.
The communal areas are just as important for a hen do, and this farmhouse gives you room to gather properly. The oak-beamed lounge is a lovely spot for welcome drinks, gift opening, group games or a quiet catch-up after a walk. There is a games room too, adding an easy entertainment option if you are planning a night in or want something low-effort between meals and hot tub sessions. The house also has the practical space you need for self-catering, group breakfasts and relaxed dinners before heading out or settling in for the evening.
The private hot tub is a standout feature for a hen weekend. It is ideal for a first-night toast, a post-walk soak or a chilled afternoon with the group before dinner. With the farmhouse surrounded by countryside, it feels far more special than a standard city stay, giving you that sense of escape without needing a packed itinerary.
Outside, the garden and BBQ make warm-weather celebrations easy. Plan a laid-back afternoon with fizz, grazing boards and BBQ food, or use the outdoor space for hen games, photos and relaxed time together. The 16 acres of woodland add another layer to the stay, especially for groups who enjoy fresh air, scenic walks or a slower Sunday morning before check-out.
The games room is a great backup for any weather and gives the group somewhere fun to gather without needing to leave the property. It is well suited to classic hen activities such as quizzes about the bride, team games, cocktail competitions or a relaxed pyjama night. Combined with the lounge, hot tub and garden, there are several different spaces for the weekend to flow naturally, whether some guests want to chat quietly while others keep the celebrations going.
This is also a strong choice for a hen group that wants comfort as well as atmosphere. En suite bedrooms, generous sleeping arrangements, a private setting, hot tub, BBQ and sociable interiors all help make the weekend feel easy to organise and enjoyable once you arrive.
The farmhouse is located in Gradbach, a tiny hamlet on the banks of the River Dane, close to Buxton in the Peak District. It is a brilliant base if your hen weekend plans include countryside activities, scenic walks or a mix of relaxation and exploring. The Roaches, one of the UK’s best-known climbing destinations, is nearby, and Lud’s Church, a dramatic hidden chasm in the woods, is also close for a memorable group walk.
Buxton is around a 15-minute drive away, giving you access to shops, cafes, restaurants, markets, the Opera House and a swimming pool. It is a lovely option for a daytime wander, afternoon tea, dinner out or a more polished evening with the group. Leek is also about 15 minutes away, with independent shops, pubs and places to eat.
For a fuller Peak District itinerary, Bakewell, Tideswell, Hartington, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are all within reach by car. We would recommend planning taxis or designated drivers in advance if you are heading out in the evening, as the property’s secluded setting is part of its charm.
If you are planning a hen weekend for up to 16 guests and want somewhere spacious, private and full of countryside character, The Farmhouse at Gradbach is a fantastic option to consider. Message the host with your preferred dates, group size and any plans you have in mind, and they can help confirm availability and the details you need before booking.
